keeping it Golden..

Here is why Golden Paints is so awesome:

Tech support,
I am requesting your advice. This panel is a luan surface, gac 100, gesso (waterbased) and an acrylic wash respectively. The dark area is a gel transfer I was working on. I noticed the support was peeling before I applied the transfer so I know this has nothing to do with the transfer. What went wrong?
Can you give me advice on how to better prepare a rigid surface? Is masonite
really better? I used the GAC 100 because I was told it seals the wood and prevents bleed through of the binder in the wood or panel. You can
see in the pic that the paint peeled off in the upper right hand side of the panel.
Its comes off easily.

thanks,
Elizabeth Kellerman

AND Golden Paints response:

Hello Elizabeth,

Can you tell us what kind of Gesso you used? We do recommend either GAC 100 or Polymer Medium to block SID or support induced discoloration with cotton canvas and wood based panels. It appears that the wood is showing where the paint peeled off, so I must assume that the Gesso peeled off along with the paint. I cannot imagine that the GAC 100 also came off, but would like you to check the surface and see if it is glossy or if you can tell if the GAC 100 is still on the wood. My guess is that it is. So, it appears that it is not the paint that is peeling off, but rather the Gesso that is peeling off of the GAC 100. When we hear back from you about what kind of Gesso you used, we will be better able to continue the troubleshooting of this issue, as then we can eliminate an unknown product from the equation.

The other question I have for you is:

How long did you wait before applying the Gesso to the GAC 100. In other words, how long was the GAC 100 drying?

I hope this information is helpful, and if you have more questions, please don't hesitate to call or email.

Best regards,

Scott Bennett
